I've been in your shoes. My oldest Son doesn't look anything like me. . . he favors his Father completely. He was huge in basketball and went on to play semi-pro in Europe and I had several women talk about him in front of me and I would say “that's my Son” and they would “laugh” at me. He has been playing semi pro football for the last couple of years and I still have the same problem but I've learned to accept it and let it go. People who cannot accept “reality” don't understand that the world is constantly evolving and changing and the children or “tomorrow” are more beautiful than those of yesterday!!!

I find it much easier to describe people by the color of their skin. It is just a physical description. . .
“Hey, look at that black guy. ” “Hey, look at that yellow guy. ” “Hey, look at that brownish guy. ” “Hey look at that white guy. ”

Our eyes are designed for picking up colors. Why not use that to our advantage?

But anyways, I find it hilarious when I have to help people describe a black guy because they're afraid. I'm not.

i think some people really don't see the color of ones skin, it's just not an issue to them. I think that is a great attribute to have. we are all just people. why does the color of ones skin matter?

Yeah, I find it hilarious. I used to work with this white girl who refused to describe me as black. She insisted on calling me brown because that's what I am, she said. I was okay with it at first until I noticed she couldn't describe any black person as being black, that is when I decided to have the “talk” with her. . j/k. I simply told her that when you describe a person as brown most people will assume you're describing someone of Asian decent, not African. I also made it perfectly clear that calling someone black is NOT a bad thing.

I don't think this only happens with white people. I've seen people of various races who refuse to call someone “black”. It's because they are not sure if that's offensive or else they believe that it is an insult to call someone black. But that means that some think that being black is a negative thing. lol

Yes, I think some people think that it is offensive to say ” the black kid”, but its also weird hear some say “the African American kid”. . . lol

Its not at all. However like I said some, partner across from me has no problem saying “the black girl” .
